Faith @ WorkNäide

A life anchored in faith, living as a citizen of heaven, sets you free to enjoy everything this world that God’s created has to offer. As a person of faith, you can live here and now to the max. With your faith grounded in God’s kingdom, as an employee, a manager, or an executive, as a parent or a spouse, as a friend or a student, you have the privilege of enriching the lives of those around you.
In Genesis 12, God appears to Abraham and gives him a call and a promise—a call to follow God to a land that he would show Abraham, and a promise to bless Abraham and to make him a blessing.
Abraham chose to obey God, leaving behind the “seen” world of his former days and launching into a project of “daring faith.” He believed that the riches of God’s kingdom immeasurably surpassed anything this world had to offer. Abraham kept his focus on heaven—a city whose foundations God designed and built.
When Abraham arrived in the land God led him to, by faith, he made a reality of what wasn’t obvious to an onlooker: he farmed, raised sheep, and dug wells. He was financially rewarded for his hard labor. At the same time, the people he lived among came to respect him as a Prince of God (Gen. 23:6). They viewed him as a ruler, and he went so far as to go into battle to free the kings of that area. Abraham’s servants (we would call them employees today) acknowledged that God was the source of Abraham’s blessings (Gen. 24:27).
While he enjoyed the wealth and prestige he earned by his labor, people knew that Abraham’s life rested on the stability of the promises of God, not on material things. By going in faith where God sent him, Abraham brought glory to God. Abraham’s hard work and leadership among the people where he lived honored God. Abraham worshipped God by his faithful obedience throughout his life. Therefore, God was not ashamed to be called the God of Abraham. He counted Abraham as a righteous man.
When people observe your life, what do they see? Do they see your abilities, do they see your wealth, or do they see your faith in God?
Prayer
Almighty God, who has prepared good works for each of us to do, give me the courage to choose to launch into the project of daring faith that you have called me to so that your name would be honored and glorified through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
