Lessons From the Book of JonahNäide

Sometimes I just don’t get you!
Do you ever talk to someone and start feeling you just don’t get them? If you’re married, I’m 100% sure you know what I’m talking about.🤪
No matter how much you have in common, there are always things the other person does or likes that you just don’t get.
For example, I LOVE the beach, I love swimming in the ocean and chilling on the sand, reading a book. There is nothing more relaxing to me than an ocean breeze, the sound of waves and blue water as far as my eyes can reach. It reminds me of the vastness of God’s grace and the majesty of His creation.
Cameron grew up close to the beach, but he’s not a fan. He hates the sand going everywhere, and he can’t stand the heat or the humidity. He’d rather be inside an AC restaurant; I don’t get it.🤷🏼♀️
I get the same feeling when I read the story of Jonah.
In the beginning, he receives a clear and direct call from God. Most of us would love such clarity, right? But not Jonah, he decides to disobey it (Jonah 1:2-3).
Eventually, he fulfils his God-given commission by simply preaching “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown” (Jonah 3:4 NIV). As a result, the entire city repents and is saved.
Again, I think most pastors would dream of such an “easy” revival in their city. But Jonah? He gets angry (Jonah 4:1).
I don’t get Jonah, but God does!
And no matter how outrageous Jonah’s behaviour might seem, God didn’t abandon him:
- He sent a storm to redirect him (Jonah 1:4)
- He sent a fish to save his life (Jonah 1:17)
- He heard his cry from inside the fish (Jonah 2:10)
- He gave him a second chance (Jonah 3:1)
- He met Jonah in his anger, not once but twice (Jonah 4:1,3-4,9-11)
Maybe there are times you feel like nobody gets you. Remember: even if the whole world seems to think you’ve lost it, God gets you.
He never leaves you and will meet you right where you’re at.
Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
