What the Bible Says About ... Volume 2Näide

Fathers
For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just.
A father has compassion on his children. … Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
A father disciplines the son he delights in. … Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. … For what children are not disciplined by their father? … Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
He (an overseer) must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. … An elder must be … a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.
