God’s Comfort in Grief and Suffering

DAY 5 OF 5

Stand in the Delay

In traveling to many countries, I experienced many travel delays. Sometimes these delays had me standing in long lines to find a new flight, and sometimes these delays had me sleeping on the airport floor until morning. While I found it frustrating that I could not start the journey I intended to take, these delays were still better than flying the wrong way. A delay in the right place is better than moving to the wrong place.

Patience is standing in the delay. Patience is necessary to endure suffering (2 Corinthians 6:4-6). You just keep thinking, I’m going to make it through this. I’m going to be triumphant in Christ.

In closing this devotional, I encourage you to read and study the entire book of 2 Corinthians. Not only does it provide many answers as to why we suffer or how we should endure hardship, but it also encourages us to remember the redemptive work of Jesus in all seasons of life.

Second Corinthians will remind you that God’s power:

  • Brings all comfort to all suffering and helps us comfort others (1:3-4).
  • Lovingly corrects without crushing us (2:6-11).
  • Always causes us to triumph in Christ (2:14).
  • Transforms us (3:18), is excellent (4:7), and is released by speaking the Word (4:13).
  • Causes thanksgiving (4:15), equips us with grace, and teaches us to patiently endure (6:4-6).
  • Conquers the negative strongholds of our thought life (10:3-6).
  • Uses thorns meant for evil to bless us. God is strong when we are weak (12:7-10).

Press into the Lord! No matter the trial, He will see you through.
