DAY 3 OF 5

Renewed in God's Word

And how do we battle? We can wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). We can and must saturate our minds with His truth to combat the Enemy’s lies. We can remember that when we feel worthless, God says we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). When we feel unloved, God says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). When we feel weak, God says, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

In the loss of our son, I allowed the Enemy to tell me I was a bad mother, that I had failed in the one job I had: keeping my children safe. He made me think I would never have joy again and that River’s death was all our fault. He made me believe that my family would never recover and that my children’s lives would be forever ruined by this tragedy.

When our emotions are all over the place, it’s easy to get swept up and lose sight of what’s real. And the lies can hold us in bondage and shame. So we must ground ourselves in God’s firm, unchanging, and reliable truth.

Your mind is free for the taking if you aren’t renewing it daily. If we aren’t filling our minds with the Word of God, there is room for the Enemy to take root and fill us with doubts and lies. This isn’t some red cartoon devil with horns we are dealing with. This is an accuser, a deceiver who seeks to demolish your hope, distort the truth, and destroy everything good that God has established.

This is an enemy who knows the Scriptures. This is someone who comes disguised as an angel of light. If we don’t know the truth, we can’t combat the lies when the Enemy tries to convince us that God has abandoned us, that He isn’t who He says He is, that He is holding out on us.

By rooting ourselves in God’s Word, we are equipped to stand firm against the Enemy’s schemes. And as we do so, the Lord will be faithful to strengthen, protect, and sustain us.

Thank you, Lord for renewing my mind as I soak in the truth of Your word. I trust that you will remain faithful and meet my every need in Your way and in Your timing. You are so good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

The Girl on the Bathroom Floor

As Christians, we are in a spiritual war, but we don’t fight alone. We have a Savior who has already secured the victory and who offers us life—full, abundant, and eternal. As we navigate the battles of this fallen world, including the wounds we suffer, we can cling to the hope that the war has already been won. So let’s armor up and stand firm!
