Day 4: You are Not Alone
I can honestly say that I know what it feels like to be lonely. I’ve experienced what it’s like to be in a room full of people and still feel completely alone. After losing my husband, even simple things like going shopping or being out in public became difficult. Being surrounded by couples only reminded me of what I had lost. It always felt like I was the only one without someone by my side. Looking back, I now see that it was a lie the enemy used to discourage me—a trick on my mind that took time and truth to overcome.
I did my best to focus on my children and create joyful moments with them, even though I knew they were hurting too. God, in His goodness, blessed me with a big extended family, a loving church, and many faithful friends. On the hardest days—when the loneliness felt overwhelming—those listening ears and kind hearts made all the difference.
I’ll admit, I struggled with the desire to have a man in my life, to not feel so alone. But God gently taught me that I could replace those empty feelings with meaningful activities—spending time with family and friends, watching light-hearted shows, reading, doing word searches, and even writing encouraging notes to others. Most importantly, He taught me to fix my eyes on Him and not on what I felt was missing.
I had to learn that my happiness doesn’t come from a person—it comes from God alone. There were moments when I wondered if God truly cared, but His Word reminded me of the truth: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The best person you can talk to is the Lord. He always cares, He always has time for you, and He will always listen. You are never truly alone when He is by your side.
Day 4: Challenge
Do you ever feel like you are all alone on your own personal island, as if no one understands you and your situation, or as if you are the only person going through this fatherless experience on planet earth?
Maybe your friends had a get-together with couples, or you didn't get invited to a party? Did your friends plan a weekend without you and post the pictures on social media, showing the world how much fun they had?
It hurts. We have all felt left out and slighted at some point. Friends or family we thought we could count on let us down or stop talking to us.
When you feel lonely, remember that even when no one else chooses us, God has chosen us. As stated in Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV): "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will."
When you feel hurt by family, a relevant Scripture is Psalm 27:10 (NKJV): "Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me." This verse offers comfort by reminding us that even when human connections are absent, God's presence and support remain.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV) says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” God will never abandon us. His constant presence gives us the strength to face our fears and overcome loneliness.
Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) assures us of this in saying, “for He has said I will never leave you nor forsake you.” When you feel most alone, remember God is near to you!
Day 4: Action
Make a list of the times you feel most alone. Begin to ask God to give you strength and comfort to overcome those times.
