THE UPSIDE-DOWN KINGDOM: A 7 - Day Disovery of How God's Patterns for Living Turn Our Lives the Right Way Up by Youth Alive AusNäide

MAKE FRIENDS WITH 'NOBODIES'
It’s easy enough to stand up for marginalised people on social media. We all join the crowd, hashtagging the latest trend. It’s known as slacktivism; low-effort, feel-good actions to support a cause, usually online, that have little real-world impact. While we are busy fighting for a cause in cyberspace, how many people are we walking past in our everyday life who need someone to stand up for them?
Romans 12:16 (NLT) tells us ‘Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!’
This is so counter-cultural, in a world where we all want to be a somebody or at least know a somebody. But God tells us to live differently from the world. I love the Message version that says to make friends with nobodies and don’t try to be the great somebody.
Are there people in your everyday life who are ignored and treated like a nobody? Perhaps it's a person in your class at school, riding on your bus, in your youth group or at your part-time job? Maybe it’s the person always on their own, or the socially awkward one.
Jesus doesn’t ask us to just smile at them or say hi as we walk past. He doesn’t tell us to friend them or like their post. He requires much more. He tells us to be their friend, to get involved. Sit with them, talk to them, and eat with them. Include them in your group and your plans. Being the great somebody in the popular group does not rate with God. But befriending the nobody, now that is something!
PRAYER
Dear Jesus,
You are the One who sees and loves everyone, no matter who they are. Give me eyes to see and a heart that loves like You. Help me to move toward the overlooked, forgotten or pushed aside and value each person as Your precious creation.
