Our Motives MatterNäide

Day 7: When God Is the Why
Scripture: Colossians 3:23–24 NIV – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters... It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Motives come full circle when God becomes the “why” behind everything we do. Whether we're teaching, parenting, creating, cleaning, preaching, or simply showing up—Paul reminds us that it’s not for people. It’s for the Lord.
This truth is freeing. We no longer have to chase recognition, fear rejection, or strive for perfection. When God is our motive, our work becomes worship. Every task, big or small, sacred or mundane, is holy when done for Him.
This also brings clarity. We don’t need to overthink our calling or compare ourselves to others. God sees our unseen efforts. He values our faithfulness more than our fame. Even if no one notices, He does—and He rewards.
Living with God as our “why” means we lead with joy instead of pressure, serve with gratitude instead of resentment, and persevere with peace instead of striving. Our hearts become steady, our purpose clear, and our lives aligned.
As you close this series, take time to recalibrate your heart. Ask yourself honestly: Is God the why behind what I do? Not just in ministry, but in your family, work, relationships, and rest. Invite Him to be the center—not just the source of your strength, but the reason for your effort.
When He becomes the motive, everything changes.
Prayer:
Lord, I want You to be the reason behind everything I do. Help me to work, serve, and live for Your glory—not for praise, success, or personal gain. Make my life an offering, and let every motive be rooted in love for You. Thank you for seeing, knowing, and rewarding what others never do. Be my why, always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
