Journey Through 1&2 SamuelNäide

Intro
Nicole introduces this course on how Israel got a royal line and how this initially unnecessary institution becomes essential to God’s purposes in the world.
Intro
Nicole introduces this lesson in which we’ll meet a barren woman praying in the Tabernacle, an old priest with rebellious sons, and then Israel’s first king who failed at kingship but almost succeeded at killing David. The story line is full of ups and downs, of anticipations and disappointments, yet throughout the story we’ll witness the hesed of the real King of Israel.
Leadership succession can be traumatic in a country, an institution, even a family. The books of Samuel are going to chart out the succession not only of leaders—from Eli to Samuel to Saul to David—but also from leadership by judges to leadership by kings. The leadership of God was meant to be held in tension with this new institution, though it wasn’t always successfully handled.
