DEUTERONOMY 11
THE ISRAELITES ARE CALLED TO LOVE + OBEY THE LORD
Moses reminds the Israelites of all that God has done for them. He continues to remind them to keep the commandments so that they can stay in the Promised Land. He tells them of two mountains, one of blessing and one of cursing.
God instructs the Israelites to keep His commandments close, binding them on their hands and between their eyes. This practice points to the later tradition of wearing phylacteries (small boxes with Scripture) during prayer as a physical reminder to love and obey God.
STUDY QUESTIONS
Deuteronomy 11:18 says to "lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul" and to bind them as a sign on your hand and between your eyes. How might this look in practice today? What are some intentional ways we can keep God’s Word at the center of our thoughts and actions?
