The True Meaning of Freedom

When we celebrate freedom, we think that sets us free to pursue our plans and dreams.

Then God gives us a different perspective to consider:

“In the same way, brothers and sisters, you have died to the laws in Moses’ Teachings through Christ’s body. You belong to someone else, the one who was brought back to life. As a result, we can do what God wants.” – Romans 7:4 GW

Freedom is not about doing what you want to do.

Freedom is not an unrestricted license to pursue your passions.

God set you free from sin and death so that you can be free to serve others in love.

Here are four ways to experience the freedom God promised you:

1. Love God with your entire being because of all he’s done for you
2. Love everybody as you love yourself
3. Choose what is good; turn away from what is evil
4. Obey fearlessly so you can live in freedom.

Unattainable? No. Challenging? Yes.

If living in freedom were easy, everybody would be doing it.

You have the power of Jesus Christ and the presence of the Holy Spirit living in you.

You are free to enjoy doing the good works God created you for and serving the people around you in love.

That’s what freedom is all about.

Ask yourself:

Do I use my freedom to do what I want or pursue what God desires?

For reflection:

Father, I always thought freedom was about me, but you revealed that freedom is all about you. Give me the strength to do the good works you planned for me and obey you fearlessly. Amen.
