Some believe that setting boundaries with people who have hurt them is a sign of unforgiveness. However, forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same. Forgiveness is an act of obedience that frees us from the poison of bitterness, but it doesn’t mean putting yourself in a position to be harmed repeatedly. Jesus forgave those who sought to harm him before his appointed time, but He didn’t continue to allow abuse. Setting boundaries can be an act of wisdom, ensuring that we can love others from a place of strength rather than resentment.

Setting boundaries is protection from unforgiveness.

When we set boundaries, we acknowledge that while we can forgive, we are not required to subject ourselves to continued harm. This protects our hearts, aligns with God's wisdom, and allows us to extend love without compromising our well-being. True forgiveness frees us from bitterness, and boundaries help ensure we maintain that freedom.
