Experience Fasting in a New Way

DAY 14 OF 21

Fasting, Prayer, and the Power of Intercession

Have you ever gone through a crisis so deep that every new day seemed to bring yet another catastrophe? We all experience highs and lows—crises, pain, loss—and sometimes, we become so trapped in the darkness that we can’t see a way out. Our last spark of hope fades. But then, a friend comes, places a hand on our shoulder, prays for us—and for a moment, the veil lifts. A moment of clarity, of hope—a moment when God’s presence becomes tangible.

Whether you have been in a seemingly hopeless situation where someone fasted and prayed for you, or whether you have been the one interceding for another—both are powerful spiritual tools. Situations that seem beyond repair can be completely transformed through the power of prayer and fasting. Families once torn apart find reconciliation. Colleagues who were enemies become friends. People given no hope of healing experience restoration.

Times of fasting reveal more than ever that our God is a God of miracles, who blesses us abundantly. But Jesus also knows that in difficult seasons, we often need someone to walk alongside us—someone to lift us up when we have fallen. When we are so broken that we can no longer recognize that Jesus has been standing by our side all along, reaching out His hand to pull us up, He sends people to intercede for us. Sometimes, the greatest miracles come through the most ordinary moments. A simple conversation with a stranger on the subway or a bus can change our lives. An unexpected invitation can set us on a new path. A prayer can move heaven itself.

Jesus never leaves us alone. He surrounds us with people who will stand in the gap for us—within our families, our workplaces, our church, and through prayer and fasting. Are you willing to take up that role? To intercede for others, to pray, and to fast on their behalf? Because this is how God’s kingdom brings light into the darkness—through people who surrender themselves fully to Him and to their fellow human beings.

Next Step: Ask Jesus if there are people in your life for whom you should fast and pray. Begin your fasting time with the firm belief that Jesus is about to work a miracle.
