Stillness in the Chaos: A 5-Day Devotional for Busy Moms

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Living from a Place of Stillness

Scripture: “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” — Psalm 37:7 (NIV)

Devotional: As a busy mom, you are accustomed to constant motion—whether it’s attending to your children’s needs, juggling household responsibilities, or managing work and other commitments. It’s easy to fall into the rhythm of go, go, go, and before you know it, your soul feels exhausted. But God calls you to live from a place of stillness.

This verse from Psalm 37 invites us to “be still before the Lord.” Being still isn’t just about physically sitting in silence. It’s about quieting the noise of your mind and soul, finding peace in God’s presence, and waiting on Him. It’s in this stillness that God fills you with renewed strength, wisdom, and peace to carry on.

Jesus modeled this for us—after times of great ministry, He would withdraw to pray and recharge. It wasn’t an act of avoidance; it was an act of empowerment. By withdrawing to be still before the Father, He was able to continue fulfilling His purpose with strength and clarity.

As a mom, your ability to live from a place of stillness doesn’t mean abandoning your responsibilities. It means letting God’s peace govern your heart and mind, even in the midst of your tasks. Stillness empowers you to be more present, more intentional, and more patient with your children, your spouse, and yourself.

When you prioritize time with God—whether through short pauses throughout the day, quiet moments of prayer, or intentional reflection—you tap into a wellspring of peace that can carry you through any chaos. God is not asking you to do more but to be still and trust in His timing and provision.

Living from a place of stillness is a choice you make daily. It’s an invitation to embrace God’s peace and strength in every moment, no matter how busy your life may be.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of stillness. I confess that I often feel overwhelmed and stretched thin by the demands of motherhood. Teach me to find rest in You, to be still before You, and to wait patiently for Your guidance. I know that when I quiet my soul and trust in Your timing, You give me the strength to face each day with grace and peace. Help me to carry this stillness in my heart, even when life feels chaotic. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What prevents you from living from a place of stillness?
  2. How can you incorporate moments of stillness into your day to help you stay grounded in God’s peace?
  3. How do you feel when you make the choice to be still before God instead of rushing through tasks?

Action Step: Today, choose to be still for 10-15 minutes. Whether it’s in the morning before the day starts, in the quiet moments of your lunch break, or in the evening before bed, take time to quiet your mind and soul. Pray or reflect on God’s goodness, and allow His peace to fill you. Consider making this a daily habit.

Quote for the Day: “Living from a place of stillness doesn’t mean doing less; it means receiving more from God in the midst of everything you do.” — Oluseye Ashiru
