The Bible for Young Explorers: MarkNäide

The meaning of the curtain
In the centre of the temple was a special room called the ‘holy of holies’. It was a symbolic place where God lived on earth. But a huge thick curtain closed the space off. No one except the chosen high priest could ever enter—and even then, just once a year. God and man could never normally mix. Good and evil cannot go together. Like oil and water. When Jesus died, this curtain tore open from top to bottom! It was to symbolise that the way into God’s presence was now wide open to all of us. This curtain was said to be almost 20 m high and 10 cm thick! If it was torn from top to bottom, it must surely have been a supernatural event.
Bear Grylls says
The centurion was highly experienced in executing criminals. But this was somehow different. This tough soldier became utterly convinced that he had just crucified the Son of God! I wonder what he saw and heard that persuaded him?
