Living in Increase (Part 1) - Increase in UnderstandingNäide

The Power of Faith
The Bible talks a lot about faith (belief in God). Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen.” Ephesians 2:8-9 talks about salvation being a gift of God through faith by grace. Hebrews 11:6 says that we need faith to please God. By immersing ourselves in Scripture and hearing the message of Christ, we increase and strengthen our faith.
In the Book of James, we learn that the testing of our faith produces endurance, and if we allow endurance to have its perfect results, we won’t lack anything (James 1:3-4). Because of this, we should consider it joy when encountering obstacles (James 1:2). As we read further in James, he distinguishes the difference between active and dead faith. While salvation does not come as a result of our works, so that we may not boast (Ephesians 2:8-9), our works result from our faith. The fruit of faith is action.
James gives an example of faith in action by depicting a person needing clothing and food. Instead of giving him supplies to meet his needs, the person is told to “go in peace, be warmed, and be filled” (James 2:16). While this sounds great, without actually doing something to help the person, this does nothing. In the same way, speaking of faith without acting in faith means nothing (James 2:17).
True faith empowers us to be doers. This isn’t a call to make some big outward gesture just for the sake of “doing.” It is a call to study the Scriptures, be led by the Holy Spirit, and trust God in the little and big things.
