A Year in Luke/ActsNäide

Why does Luke highlight different details in Matthew’s gospel? Luke wants to emphasize the kind of kingdom Jesus is bringing, even in his birth. Whilst Israel’s religious hierarchy was very good at missing God’s kingdom work (think of Zechariah in the previous chapter), God’s kingdom was advancing through a young teenage girl who humbly responded to God’s call. This call was confirmed to shepherds, who had the sky lit up above them with the most exciting announcement in Israel’s history—the Messiah was born!
Luke wants to show Jesus as king, but as a king whose kingdom is turning the world upside down (or right side up!). Those who previously had been on the outskirts are brought front and center in the story.
