Acts 7:20-53 | Obstinate or Obedient?Näide

We’re tracing the story of Stephen, one of those first Christians who was just appointed a Deacon. He does what the apostles do, and faces the same persecution. He’s eventually martyred, and his death both opens the floodgates of persecution and introduces us to Paul. (You can read Stephen’s story in Acts 6-7.)

We’ve been tracing his story over the past two Plans and will see how it culminates in next week’s Plan. For now, we find ourselves in the back half of a defense and witness he’s giving before the Sanhedrin. In this part, his focus now turns to directly addressing the two accusations against him the Sanhedrin were making – that he is speaking against Moses and the Temple.

Today, just familiarize yourself with what Stephen says. As you do, keep two words rooted in your mind – obstinate and obedient. The Sanhedrin’s insinuation against Stephen, and Stephen’s accusation back against the Sanhedrin, is that they are being obstinate instead of obedient to God. These two words frame the whole story.

As you read, ask God to show you ways you’re being obedient and ways you’re being obstinate towards Him.
