Purposeful Gratitude: The Heart of OutreachNäide

Day 3: Living Water
Isn’t it interesting that God created our bodies to need water? There are many things we can go without for a long time, but not water. Through our very DNA, God creates markers that point us to our Maker.
Jesus draws a parallel between our need for water and our need for Him in the story of the woman at the well. He began simply by asking her for a drink of water. His simple request opened the door for Him to share something so much deeper with her, the living water that He could provide — forgiveness of sin and eternal life with Him.
Just like the woman at the well, we can attempt to quench both our spiritual and physical thirst in unhelpful, even harmful, ways. But once we experience the real thing, nothing satisfies quite like it.
Everywhere around us, people are thirsty for living water. Efforts are underway worldwide to bring clean drinking water to whole populations. Imagine being thirsty in both ways: without clean water, without Jesus.
Jesus used a common need to point to a spiritual truth, and we can do the same. By meeting basic human needs, we can create bridges that bring people to Jesus. There was no grand gesture in the story of the woman at the well; it was just a simple conversation.
As you go throughout this week, look for an opportunity to start a simple conversation with someone you don’t know. As a follower of Jesus, you are a carrier of the Holy Spirit, of living water. Allow God to use you to refresh someone today.
About this Plan

Most of us know outreach is important, but life is busy, and it’s hard to even know where to start. It doesn’t have to be complicated. This devotional will help you reconnect to God’s heart for His people. When we take time to reflect on all God has done for us, we begin to see others like He does, and compassion is a natural response.
