Distance for Warfare: Growing Closer to God

DAY 4 OF 7

BUILDING ON BROKEN PIECES

Have you ever dropped a glass bowl, cup, or mirror? If so, you know a problem had to be addressed immediately if you didn’t want anyone to get cut by the broken glass pieces that may have shattered across the floor. After trying to collect every piece that may have gone across the floor, there may have still been some pieces that you didn’t pick up due to you not seeing them.

In today’s scripture, Nehemiah 2, Nehemiah received confirmation from God and approval from the king to build a wall around Jerusalem because the former wall was in broken pieces. Jerusalem needed a defense to protect the city from danger. The new wall that Nehemiah built was not only a physical sign of protection against attacks but also a spiritual sign that God was able to restore that which was broken! Despite Nehmiah’s opposition from the people, Nehemiah stayed focused on building the wall because he recognized how necessary the wall was to fulfill God’s plan to restore the nation of Israel.

We all have some areas in our lives that are broken. It could be our relationships with our friends and family members or our relationship with our inner beings. If we are willing to give God our brokenness, He will restore every area of our lives that is shattered. We must have the determination of Nehemiah to stay focused on building on broken pieces despite the opposition so that we can attain the beauty that comes from God using our broken pieces.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please mend every broken area of my life. Please convey to me what I need to do to build on my broken pieces instead of pushing them away. In Jesus name, Amen!
