Have you ever read a really good book that hooked you right in? The kind of book that keeps you reading late into the night, not wanting to put it down until you finally reach the ending? These are the kinds of books that tend to stick with us and are the first that we recommend when our friends ask us what we’ve been reading lately. Do you consider the Bible that kind of book? Have you ever run up to a friend, so excited to tell them about a Scripture that you’ve just read? For many of us, we love reading our Bibles, but we may not see it as a must-read, bestseller type of book. We know that we should read it, and we know that it’s good for us as believers, but we may not see the Bible as something new and exciting.
But even for believers who have read the Bible cover to cover, there is always something new to discover since the Holy Spirit lives in us and is reading everything in tandem with us. We may read our favorite verse and find ourselves stopping on a word we never really noticed before because He’s highlighting it for us. Or maybe you’ve heard a story so often that you think you know all there is to know, only to read it once more and have Him show you a new revelation that adds so much more? This week, challenge yourself to read the Bible as though it were a book you couldn’t wait to buy and take home. It’s more than just a book—as you read it, you are going on a tandem journey with a friend.
