What exactly is injustice?
Well, injustice is the opposite of love.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to love Jesus, ourselves, and others. Showing love can be extremely challenging, especially when different people in our lives have different opinions of what love looks like. But if we do not know what love looks like, how will we know what injustice looks like?
Knowing the best way to love our neighbors and move toward justice can be challenging. The good news is we can look at the words and life of Jesus for help. If Jesus was struggling right in front of you, how would you respond? Would you turn your head? Offer tough love? Tell Him what you thought was right? Or would you simply love, support, and defend Him? As Jesus told us, the way to love our neighbors and move toward justice is to serve and care for those in need. That is love, and that is justice.
Next time we struggle to understand what injustice looks like, we should think, “What does Jesus say about this? Would I treat Jesus the same way?”
