Day 17: Finding Joy in Gratitude
Gratitude has a unique power to transform our perspective and uplift our spirit. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, the Apostle Paul encourages us to “give thanks in all circumstances,” a call that seems particularly challenging during tough times. But this is exactly when the practice of gratitude can be most impactful.
Gratitude helps us focus on what we have rather than what we lack, on blessings rather than burdens. This shift in focus can be a significant source of Joy. When we begin to see our lives through the lens of gratitude, even the mundane or challenging aspects can become opportunities to recognize God’s Grace.
Moreover, a grateful heart is a Joyful heart. It’s not that gratitude ignores or diminishes life’s difficulties, but it does offer us a tool to find Joy even amid challenges.
What are you grateful for today?
How does practicing gratitude affect your state of mind?
Can you think of a challenging situation where gratitude helped you find Joy?
Keep a gratitude journal for a week. Each day, jot down at least three things you’re thankful for. At the end of the week, review your list and reflect on how this practice has affected your sense of Joy.
