The First Letter of JohnNäide

In the Beginning
John begins this epistle, or letter, in a way that mirrors his opening of the Gospel of John, which itself parallels the opening of the entire Bible. In all three, we see a picture of the Godhead and that Jesus was there “in the beginning”, before creation itself. John starts the letter declaring the eternal nature of Jesus as the Living Word of God.
In this way, John is laying a firm foundation that Jesus is God. This is vital for his readers to understand what he wants to impress on them later.
Devotional Question:
Maybe you believe that Jesus is God, but practically you live as if Jesus loves you, but God the Father does not. Examine your heart. Is there an area in your life where you see Jesus as anything less than fully God? Is there an area in your belief system where Christ is a secondary character and not the main protagonist?
About this Plan

1 John is one of the most quoted books of the Bible, and for a good reason: John understood God’s love in a special way. As we explore the pages of this book, let that be our main goal: to understand the love of God better and better, and to grow closer to Him.
