What Encouragement Do I Need Right Now?

Do you know the saying, “It’s like finding a needle in a haystack”? That might be how you feel right now, thinking about finding a life verse! If there are over 30,000 verses in the Bible, how are you supposed to find one verse, or one passage, to be your life verse? Today, we’ll take our first step in answering that question… with another question! It is:

What encouragement do I need right now?

Maybe that question is easy for you to answer today. You’re facing a season right now where encouragement is exactly what you need. You may be discouraged, afraid, unsure, or all of the above!

As you continue to think about your answer to today’s question, consider this story found in 1 Samuel 30. David, his fighting men, and all of their families were settled in a city called Ziklag. One day, while David and his men left to fight in another region, an enemy army kidnapped their families, stole their possessions, and burned whatever remained in the city of Ziklag. In a day, everything David and his men held dear was gone.

To say they needed encouragement in that moment is an understatement. Have you ever had a day or a season where it felt like everything you held dear was destroyed, under attack, or out of reach? Is that a season you’re in right now? Well, sitting among the ruins of Ziklag, and grieving everything that was taken from him, the Bible says that David did something really surprising: he “encouraged himself in the Lord” (1 Samuel 30:6). It’s in moments like these that we need a life verse! A life verse allows us to encourage ourselves in the Lord, just like David did. When we’re sitting in our own rock-bottom moment, a life verse like Joshua 1:9 can remind us that God is with us and never forsakes us.

So, what encouragement do you need right now? The answer to the question of your life verse might be right there in your need.
