The Rock on Which It Is Built (S1-E4)

DAY 4 OF 4

I don’t need a Lamb!

When John the Baptist sees Jesus, he proclaims, “Behold the Lamb of God!” He recognizes what others have yet to understand: Jesus is the sacrifice who will take away the sin of the world.

In The Chosen, Peter’s response is strikingly different. Frustrated and desperate, he says, "I don't need a Lamb, I need fish." He isn’t looking for a savior; he’s looking for a solution.

How often do we think the same way? I don't need a Lamb, I need ....money, time, healing, control, relief. Like Peter, we focus on the immediate problem and miss the deeper need.

Yet Jesus knows exactly what Peter needs – and its not just fish. He provides a miraculous catch, yes, but more than that, he offers freedom. In that moment, Peter learns that Jesus isn’t simply a problem-solver. He is a redeemer.

Later, on the cross, Jesus completes that redemption. His final words, "It is finished," declare that the work is done. The Lamb has been slain, sin is defeated, and freedom is possible. Three days later, when He rises from the dead, even death loses its hold.

After his resurrection, Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit on his disciples, commissioning them to carry this freedom to others. The Lamb who died now lives—and gives new life to all who trust in him.

The same invitation stands today. Jesus, the Lamb of God, is still the answer beneath every need, the source of lasting freedom and peace.

Reflection Questions

  • What does it mean to you that Jesus is the Lamb of God?
  • In what moments do you look for short-term fixes instead of lasting freedom in Jesus?
  • Where might Jesus be inviting you to experience deeper trust and release?

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are the Lamb of God for me too. Teach me to realize more and more that I need You, so that I can experience the freedom that only You can give. Amen.
