The 4 Living Creatures Series Part 2: The OxNäide

Service
In everything, there must be balance. The character of the ox balances out the character of the lion mentioned in Part 1 of this series. The notion of rendering service to someone has been translated in our society as something that is reserved for the least among us.
The ox is not known to be a glorious animal, but it is an animal that was commonly used for agriculture. An ox is known for the service that it is capable of providing to its owner. Oxen are valued for facilitating back-breaking labor for the farmer. The task is not pretty, nevertheless the ox remains an essential element of agriculture.
Likewise, Jesus causes our perspective to shift when we think about the ingredients of greatness. Many are after the position of prominence, not knowing that the greatest in the kingdom is the one who renders their service to another. The criteria to become great in the kingdom of heaven is established on your heart’s desire to serve others. There must be evidence of your selflessness. Let us examine and offer ourselves in a practical manner to the ones who need us the most. Let us avail ourselves to be of assistance to someone who may be facing difficulty.
