Promises: Wait for the Lord
The fear of uncertainty causes us to run . . . fast. We run to places we think will bring comfort. We run to where the pain can be dulled, at least for a while. These are unhealthy destinations that deliver short-lived satisfaction and false hope. God has a different remedy for uncertainty. He tells us to stay put and wait for his confidence.
Psalm 27:14
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
When we feel like bolting, he says, “Be strong.” When our courage melts like hot wax, he says, “Take heart.” Spurgeon wrote, “Wait at his door with prayer; wait at his foot with humility; wait at his table with service; wait at his window with expectancy.”
Our waiting is not about passing the time for God to arrive from a distant place; he is always present with us! Our waiting is not to give God time to determine his plan of action. God is waiting for us to wait on him!
Father, it is so hard to wait. I like to take matters into my own hands. Help me slow down and wait in prayer, humility, and with expectancy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
