What Jesus said next will rock you to your core. He said HERE ARE THE KEYS. Here are the keys?? What does that mean?? Some think it means that Simon Peter was given the keys, and he will be waiting at the pearly gates of heaven when you die to determine if you were good enough for him to open the door and let you in. I’m pretty sure I just explained how you are not good enough to get in. Peter is not going to stand there and count the good things you did compared to the bad things. You cannot earn your way in. That’s not how it works. There is only one way to get to Heaven, and that is through Jesus. BUT once you accept that, you are given the keys to get others out of the prison they are locked in. It is your sole purpose on Earth.

I know that statement is a little like getting hit with a brick; bear with me as I explain. God could have taken you straight up to heaven when you accepted Jesus as your Savior, but He didn’t. He left you here, and He did so for a reason. The key that you have been given is the truth about who Jesus is, and it is now your job to tell others. The gates of hell cannot prevail against that knowledge. It doesn’t matter that Satan is the prince of this world; it doesn’t matter that we’re locked in this prison. We can escape with this key.

The funny thing is that the enemy doesn’t want us to know this. Without this knowledge, we can just live our lives as if they are about us. How often do we get wrapped up in the issues of the world? We get busy, sick, tired, or stressed. Well guess what …

You’re busy? People are going to hell.

You’re sick? People are going to hell.

You’re tired? People are going to hell.

You’re stressed? People are going to hell.

I’m sorry, but that trumps any excuse you can come up with. You are outside the gates of hell my friend. None of your earthly problems matter anymore. Jesus promises to take care of everything for us–feed us, provide for us, fight our battles–and He does this so that we can focus on our primary job of rescuing people from hell. Nothing else matters. No matter how bad it gets on this side of the gate, we get to spend ETERNITY in heaven with our Father. Others are literally heading for an ETERNITY of burning in the lake of fire.

So … here are the keys. Your new job is to open the gates of hell and help others escape.
