What the Bible Has to Say About ClothingNäide

Why do we wear clothes?
“Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame” (Genesis 2:25)
When you get up in the morning, you may need some time to choose what clothes to put on. But the fact that you put something on goes without saying. You don't even think about that!
Yet at the very beginning, this was different. When the Lord God created the first people, they were naked. And that was no problem at all. There was nothing to be ashamed of; their bodies were beautiful. Nor did they need protection from the cold, sunburn, thistles, or thorns, for they lived in a beautiful garden that God created in a perfect world.
Only later, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, did this change. From then on, they were ashamed of their nakedness. Moreover, the whole world was affected by the curse of their sin, and they needed protection from cold, heat, mosquitoes, and sharp thorns. Clothing had become indispensable.
So, the fact that we wear clothing was not part of God’s original creation. It is a consequence of sin. Were you aware of this fact? What does clothing mean to you?
