Paul begins chapter seven with the phrase, “Now for the matters you wrote about.” Paul was given a list of issues/questions the church needed him to address. Paul answered their questions about marriage immediately after he had discussed the issues of sexual immorality in chapter 6. According to Scripture, the only moral sexual relationship is the marriage between a man and a woman. Chapter 7 lists Paul’s answers to questions we do not have the benefit of knowing. As a result, it is left to interpretation to understand what the issue in the church might have been. Regardless, these passages were inspired and preserved as Scripture by the Holy Spirit, making the teaching relevant by definition.
“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).
