Called to have a relationship with God and sent to serve him
The story of the people of Israel starts in Genesis 12 with God’s calling and promise to Abram. The name Abram means “elevated father”, while the name he is given later on (Gen 15:5) means “father of many”.
It's clear from the get-go – the story of Abraham and Israel is not just about the family of Abraham, but about how God is going to let his blessing and grace reach to all the people of the earth.
