NT 260: Part FourNäide

The book of Titus has a similar background to 1st Timothy. Paul had left Titus in Crete to oversee the churches there and is now writing this letter to give him some instructions. Paul repeats his instructions on the qualifications for leaders in a church and warns Titus against those who want to lead for their own personal gain.
It is clear, when it comes to church leadership; Paul is more interested in character than wealth, power or education. Job applicants fill their resumes with accomplishments, but God is interested in who we are on the inside. People do the right things and make the best decisions when they are people of character, led by God’s Spirit.
