Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 5

DÍA 6 DE 23

In verse 34, we see that the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees during an earlier conversation they had had with Jesus about the resurrection, where Jesus stated, “God is not a God of the dead but of the living”. So, now the Pharisees send in one of their own, an expert in the Law, to question Jesus’ knowledge of the law. As we know, Jesus then replies to this question in verses 37-39, stating that we are to love God with all our strength and that we need to love people as we love ourselves. In verse 40, he says, “All the laws and Prophets depend on these two commands”. Here Jesus shows them that he understands the way they see it, as a matter of fact, he sees it in a better way. People around us will always question what we believe, especially in today’s society. The question is, how do you address it? Right after verse 40, Jesus asks the question to the Pharisees, “What do you think about the Messiah?” After answering their question, He asks the more important one, not a religious question, but one concerning himself. He asks, “What do you think?” In this way, Jesus helps them discover that religion is about traditions and rituals, but faith and love are all about Jesus himself and once they discover that they will discover love himself. Who in your life is busy questioning your faith? What is one way that you can love them the way that God loves you (John 13:34-35)?
