What are you most afraid of? Many people would say snakes or spiders or cancer or loneliness or losing a loved one. At the root of most of those fears is the ultimate fear of death. It is a topic we don’t talk about often, but it’s an inevitable part of every person’s life. Most of us, if we’re being honest, are scared of dying. However, there are others who have glorified it. Satan has taken the concept of death and twisted it for many people to make it appear as something we can control. 

The lie we believe so often is that death is something to be afraid of or something we can take into our own hands and control. However, the truth is that Jesus conquered death so that we don’t have to fear. We can know that death is not the end, but there is hope for eternal life in heaven if we know and trust Jesus with our lives on earth. 

While death is very real, it doesn’t win in the end. Jesus offers life in himself. He conquered death and was resurrected three days after his death to prove to the world that He IS the resurrection and the life. When we choose to follow Jesus, we receive the same power of the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from death to life, and we no longer have to fear what comes after death. We have the hope of heaven to look forward to while we continue to live out the mission Jesus called us to here on earth. 

Reflect: How do I really feel about death? Does it scare me, or do I trust Jesus with the days I have here on earth?

Pray: Jesus, thank you for conquering death so that I don’t have to live in fear. Help me to live on mission every day here on earth. Amen.
