INSPIRED ANCESTRY

[Scheduled Reading: Mark 4-16, Luke 1-3]

Today’s read ends with a powerful genealogy of The Seed.

Luke Chapter 3 lists every generation from the 1st Adam (in the Garden of Eden), to the 2nd Adam (Jesus Christ).

77 generations in all.

While Luke details The Seed's path through Joseph, Matthew Chapter 1 presents a partial Seed path from Mary to King David.

(Both Mary and Joseph can trace their descendants to King David - Joseph through David’s son, Nathan; and Mary through David’s son, Solomon).

These two chapters (Matthew 1 and Luke 3) are treasures to historians in helping to verify the ancestry of Jesus.

As a young child I accepted the story of Jesus Christ, and have trusted it ever since. I didn’t need much proof. (That’s one of the blessings of being raised in a Christian home.)

But as an adult today, it’s comforting to know that the ancestry of Christ can be traced all the way to the beginning.

The works of the gospel writers were brilliantly inspired by God!
