Καὶ ἐπειδὴ καθωδηγήθησαν μὲ ὄνειρον ὑπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ νὰ μὴ ἐπιστρέψουν εἰς τὸν Ἡρώδην, ἀνεχώρησαν εἰς τὴν πατρίδα τους ἀπὸ ἄλλον δρόμον. Ὅταν ἀνεχώρησαν, ὁ ἄγγελος τοῦ Κυρίου ἐμφανίζεται εἰς τὸν Ἰωσὴφ εἰς ὄνειρον καὶ τοῦ λέγει, «Σήκω, πάρε τὸ παιδὶ καὶ τὴν μητέρα του καὶ φύγε εἰς τὴν Αἴγυπτον καὶ μεῖνε ἐκεῖ, ἕως ὅτου σοῦ πῶ, διότι ὁ Ἡρώδης σκοπεύει νὰ ἀναζητήσῃ τὸ παιδὶ διὰ νὰ τὸ σκοτώσῃ».
