1Ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα, ἥμαρτεν ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος τοῦ βασιλέως Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ὁ ἀρχισιτοποιὸς, τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτῶν βασιλεῖ Αἰγύπτου. 2Καὶ ὠργίσθη Φαραὼ ἐπὶ τοῖς δυσὶν εὐνούχοις αὐτοῦ, ἐπὶ τῷ ἀρχιοινοχόῳ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ ἀρχισιτοποιῷ· 3Καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοὺς ἐν φυλακῇ εἰς τὸ δεσμωτήριον, εἰς τὸν τόπον, οὗ Ἰωσὴφ ἀπῆκτο ἐκεῖ. 4Καὶ συνέστησεν ὁ ἀρχιδεσμώτης τῷ Ἰωσὴφ αὐτούς· καὶ παρέστη αὐτοῖς· ἦσαν δὲ ἡμέρας ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ. 5Καὶ εἶδον ἀμφότεροι ἐνύπνιον ἐν μιᾷ νυκτί· ἡ δὲ ὅρασις τοῦ ἐνυπνίου τοῦ ἀρχιοινοχόου καὶ ἀρχισιτοποιοῦ, οἳ ἦσαν τῷ βασιλεῖ Αἰγύπτου, οἱ ὄντες ἐν τῷ δεσμωτηρίῳ, ἦν αὕτη. 6Εἰσῆλθε πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ἰωσὴφ τὸ πρωῒ, καὶ εἶδεν αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἦσαν τεταραγμένοι. 7Καὶ ἠρώτα τοὺς εὐνούχους Φαραὼ, οἳ ἦσαν μετʼ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ παρὰ τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ, λέγων, τί ὅτι τὰ πρόσωπα ὑμῶν σκυθρωπὰ σήμερον; 8Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ, ἐνύπνιον εἴδομεν, καὶ ὁ συγκρίνων οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτό· εἶπε δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἰωσὴφ, οὐχὶ διὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡ διασάφησις αὐτῶν ἐστι; διηγήσασθε οὖν μοὶ. 9Καὶ διηγήσατο ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος τὸ ἐνύπνιον αὐτοῦ τῷ Ἰωσήφ· καὶ εἶπεν, ἐν τῷ ὕπνῳ μου ἦν ἄμπελος ἐναντίον μου. 10Ἐν δὲ τῇ ἀμπέλῳ τρεῖς πυθμένες, καὶ αὐτὴ θάλλουσα, ἀνενηνοχυῖα βλαστούς· πέπειροι οἱ βότρυες σταφυλῆς. 11Καὶ τὸ ποτήριον Φαραὼ ἐν τῇ χειρί μου· καὶ ἔλαβον τὴν σταφυλὴν, καὶ ἐξέθλιψα αὐτὴν εἰς τὸ ποτήριον, καὶ ἔδωκα τὸ ποτήριον εἰς τὴν χεῖρα Φαραώ. 12Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἰωσὴφ, τοῦτο ἡ σύγκρίσις αὐτοῦ· οἱ τρεῖς πυθμένες, τρεῖς ἡμέραι εἰσίν. 13Ετι τρεῖς ἡμέραι, καὶ μνησθήσεται Φαραὼ τῆς ἀρχῆς σου, καὶ ἀποκαταστήσει σε ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχιοινοχοΐαν σου, καὶ δώσεις τὸ ποτήριον Φαραὼ εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ κατὰ τὴν ἀρχήν σου τὴν προτέραν, ὡς ἦσθα οἰνοχοῶν. 14Ἀλλὰ μνήσθητί μου διὰ σεαυτοῦ, ὅταν εὖ γενηταί σοι· καὶ ποιήσεις ἐν ἐμοὶ ἔλεος· καὶ μνησθήσῃ περὶ ἐμοῦ πρὸς Φαραὼ, καὶ ἐξάξεις με ἐκ τοῦ ὀχυρώματος τούτου. 15Ὅτι κλοπῇ ἐκλάπην ἐκ γῆς Ἑβραίων, καὶ ὧδε οὐκ ἐποίησα οὐδὲν, ἀλλʼ ἐνέβαλόν με εἰς τὸν λάκκον τοῦτον. 16Καὶ εἶδεν ὁ ἀρχισιτοποιὸς ὅτι ὀρθῶς συνέκριεν· καὶ εἶπε τῷ Ἰωσὴφ, κᾀγὼ εἶδον ἐνύπνιον· καὶ ᾤμην τρία κανᾶ χονδριτῶν αἴρειν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς μου· 17Ἐν δὲ κανῷ τῷ ἐπάνω ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν γενῶν, ὧν Φαραὼ ἐσθίει, ἔργον σιτοποιοῦ, καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανου κατήσθιεν αὐτὰ ἀπὸ τοῦ κανοῦ τοῦ ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς μου. 18Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ἰωσὴφ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, αὕτη ἡ σύγκρισις αὐτοῦ· τὰ τρία κανᾶ, τρεῖς ἡμέραι εἰσίν· 19Ἔτι τριῶν ἡμερῶν, καὶ ἀφελεῖ Φαραὼ τὴν κεφαλήν σου ἀπὸ σου· καὶ κρεμάσει σε ἐπὶ ξύλου, καὶ φάγεται τὰ ὄρνεα τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τὰς σάρκας σου ἀπὸ σοῦ. 20Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ, ἡμέρα γενέσεως ἦν Φαραὼ, καὶ ἐποίει πότον πᾶσι τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐμνήσθη τῆς ἀρχῆς τοῦ οἰνοχόου καὶ τῆς ἀρχῆς τοῦ σιτοποιοῦ ἐν μέσῳ τῶν παίδων αὐτοῦ. 21Καὶ ἀποκατέστησε τὸν ἀρχιοινοχόον ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχὴν αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἔδωκε τὸ ποτήριον εἰς τὴν χεῖρα Φαραώ. 22Τὸν δὲ ἀρχισιτοποιὸν ἐκρέμασεν, καθὰ συνέκρινεν αὐτοῖς Ἰωσήφ. 23Καὶ οὐκ ἐμνήσθη ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος τοῦ Ἰωσὴφ, ἀλλαʼ ἐπελάθετο αὐτοῦ.

Joseph Tells the Meaning of the Prisoners' Dreams

5One night each of the two men had a dream, but their dreams had different meanings. 6The next morning, when Joseph went to see the men, he could tell they were upset, 7and he asked, “Why are you so worried today?”
8“We each had a dream last night,” they answered, “and there is no one to tell us what they mean.”
Joseph replied, “Doesn't God know the meaning of dreams? Now tell me what you dreamed.”
9The king's personal servant told Joseph, “In my dream I saw a vine 10with three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its grapes became ripe. 11I held the king's cup and squeezed the grapes into it, then I gave the cup to the king.”
12Joseph said:
This is the meaning of your dream. The three branches stand for three days, 13and in three days the king will pardon you. He will make you his personal servant again, and you will serve him his wine, just as you used to do. 14But when these good things happen, please don't forget to tell the king about me, so I can get out of this place. 15I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and here in Egypt I haven't done anything to deserve being thrown in jail.
16When the chief cook saw that Joseph had given a good meaning to the dream, he told Joseph, “I also had a dream. In it I was carrying three breadbaskets stacked on top of my head. 17The top basket was full of all kinds of baked things for the king, but birds were eating them.”
18Joseph said:
This is the meaning of your dream. The three baskets are three days, 19#3 Macc 6.34. and in three days the king will cut off your head. He will hang your body on a pole, and birds will come and peck at it.
20Three days later, while the king was celebrating his birthday with a dinner for his officials, he sent for his personal servant and the chief cook. 21He put the personal servant back in his old job 22and had the cook put to death.
Everything happened just as Joseph had said it would, 23but the king's personal servant completely forgot about Joseph.
