New Year Resetنموونە

Introduction
In a new year, we often aspire to reset the rhythms of life. We want to recalibrate, or in some cases, newly create what we consider to be healthy practices. We think about our calendar, physical health, work-life balance, and relationships. But what if the most powerful RESET we could make is to reconsider the lens through which we view life? God’s Word paints a divine perspective for every facet of life. As we consider what, where, and how to RESET, we look to Scripture and find that God has a lot to say.

RESET: How I See Myself
Have you ever watched a child who was terrible at hide and seek? Maybe the curtain doesn’t quite cover their little body, their toes are sticking out from under the couch, or my favorite one… they believe that if they cannot see you, you cannot see them. As we grow older, sometimes we’re pretty bad at hide and seek as well. But our hiding is a little more sophisticated.
We want to hide the broken parts of our story, the pain of our upbringing, or pieces of ourselves that we are ashamed of. We can become desperate to hide mistakes or decisions we are not proud of. The reality is that for us, hiding is not a game. We hide because comfort feels safer than confrontation. We would rather hear a gentle word than a sharp one. So, we pretend. We hide. We avoid it because of what it might lead to if we are “found”.
Today’s scripture passage tells us that the Word of God is alive and active. It does not skim the surface; it is designed to break through. It reaches the deepest parts of who you are, down to the very marrow of your being. It’s like a heat-seeking missile to the things you want to hide.
God designed His Word to go straight to the heart of what is truly wrong, not just manage the symptoms. He does this because He loves us and wants us to be truly free. He already knows it all. Because of Jesus’ work on the cross, there is no shame or hiding! There is only a perfect Heavenly Father, inviting you to surrender, so that what has been broken can be made whole again.
Reflect
How do you typically respond to the feelings of conviction – that experience of a profound realization that your actions are wrong? What is your “reflex” response? During this RESET season, what is one area that God is highlighting through His Word for you to change?
Pray
Heavenly Father, I need your strength to not hide from you. I open my heart to you today. Search me and know me. Reveal what I have tried to hide and heal what is broken in me. Thank You that you are a God who looks for me and is always available to me. Teach me to surrender fully to Your Word, trusting that You are working all things for my good and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
