Mom in the Word: One-Year Bible Plan (Volume 1)نموونە

Week 13 (Day 62): When the Battle Doesn't Go as Planned
Scripture Reading: Joshua 7–8
Devotional Focus: The Cost of Hidden Sin and the Gift of Restoration
After the miraculous victory at Jericho, Joshua 7 opens with an unexpected defeat. The Israelites lose to the small city of Ai—not because God failed, but because of hidden sin in the camp. Achan’s disobedience disrupted the entire community’s progress.
As moms, this passage is a sobering but grace-filled reminder that our actions matter—not only for us but for those we lead. Sometimes, the areas where we feel stuck or defeated might require us to pause and ask, “Lord, is there anything in me that’s out of alignment with You?”
Achan hid what was forbidden. It wasn’t just about the object—it was about the heart behind it: disobedience, greed, secrecy. And that sin didn’t stay hidden for long. But God’s response wasn’t only judgment—it was also a pathway back to victory.
In chapter 8, once the issue is addressed, God gives Joshua a renewed strategy. This time, they conquer Ai. Restoration follows repentance. God’s mercy always makes a way forward when we turn back to Him with open hearts.
Reflection:
✨Are there any areas in your heart or home where you’ve been justifying disobedience?
✨What is God inviting you to bring into the light today?
✨How can you help cultivate a spirit of humility and repentance in your family?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your mercy even when I fall short. Search my heart and reveal anything that’s hindering my walk with You. Help me not to hide or justify sin, but to run toward Your grace and truth. Restore what’s been broken, and help me to walk in renewed obedience. May my home reflect Your holiness and be marked by humility and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
