“Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother, and in His name all oppression shall cease.”

Peter reminds us that our redemption was not bought with anything perishable, but with the blood of Christ Himself. The gospel is not about moral improvement but divine rescue — we were slaves to sin, but Jesus broke the chains. The lyric points to both personal and social transformation: the freedom Jesus gives is not just within us; it changes how we see others. In Christ, no one is lesser or forgotten. The gospel tears down the walls of oppression, pride, and prejudice. As they say, the ground is level at the foot of the cross. Every believer stands equal before God — forgiven, redeemed, and empowered to extend that same grace to others.
