The Weight of Waiting

For me, the hardest part of patience is simply the waiting.

Let’s face it—most of us guys feel that if we’re not taking action or chasing a goal, then we’re falling behind. One of the worst feelings in the world is watching everything and everyone else move forward while you feel stuck in place.

After my first marriage failed, I entered a season of life that weighed heavily on me with each passing day. I still had my responsibilities as a father, and with two toddlers running around 24/7, there was always activity—but my mind often drifted to the painful thought that I might be alone forever.

I remember those first weekends when my daughters would visit their mother from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. The house would go from laughter, giggles, and Frozen on repeat—to absolute silence. I’d sit there in the stillness, counting the minutes until they came home so life could feel “normal” again.

But over time, I discovered something powerful: it was in the silence, the waiting, and even the hurt that God was shaping me the most. He was teaching me firsthand how to wait on Him.

It’s wild how, when life gets quiet, the enemy tries to turn up the volume. His playlist was loud—whispering lies that my girls wouldn’t come back, that I was a failure as a father, and that no woman could ever love me.

I’m tempted to jump ahead to the part where God brought my wife into my life—but instead, let’s stay right where Psalm 27:14 tells us to: “Wait for the Lord.”

Looking back now, I can see how He was shaping my heart and strengthening me in unique ways—preparing me to receive His blessings in His time. If I had tried to force it or act on my own, I likely would have missed what He had planned altogether.

There’s no sugarcoating it—the waiting was hard. It stretched me in uncomfortable ways. But maybe that’s what you need to hear: while you’re being called to wait, and it feels like God is silent, those are often the moments when He’s doing His greatest work.

What if we stopped viewing waiting as a heavy weight—and started seeing it as a divine opportunity?

This is the moment when He’s strengthening you, building courage within you to withstand the enemy’s attacks. Remember—patience isn’t passive; it’s active faith. It’s trusting that even when you can’t see movement, God is still working behind the scenes.

If you’re in the middle of a long wait, take heart. Delay doesn’t mean denial. God’s timing is never off. He’s not ignoring you—He’s investing in you.

Our job isn’t to force the door open. It’s to stay faithful until He tells us to move.

Reflection Questions:

  • What season of waiting are you currently in?
  • How has God shaped you through seasons of stillness before?

I’m Just a Guy: Without Patience

Patience doesn’t come naturally to most men. We want progress. We want results. Oh yeah - and we want it now. Whether it’s waiting on God, our family, or life itself, impatience creeps in and slowly robs our peace. The truth is, impatience isn’t just a time issue—it’s a trust issue. Deep down, when we lose patience, what we’re really saying is, “God, I don’t trust Your timing.” But what if the waiting seasons aren’t punishments—but preparation? This is for every man who’s tired of waiting and ready to grow.
