Day 4: Seeing Jesus for the Rest of Your Life
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20b
How was it for you to see Jesus in your past? Did that vision touch or change you in any way? I know that when I have seen Jesus, or led others to see Him, I’ve observed profound results in my life and in theirs. Seeing Jesus heals parts of you that knowledge or logic alone cannot touch. It reaches deep into your heart—into those places that seemed inaccessible. Seeing Jesus brings new emotions, gives His perspective, and can heal your memories.
In Psalms 139:5‑6, David proclaims:
“You hem me in behind and before,
and You lay Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”
You see, God goes before us, but He also goes behind us, to heal us from the hidden places of our past.
I don’t know about you, but I seem to have an endless supply of memories that need healing. There are those painful scenes where something unjust happened. Seeing Jesus in those places, observing His presence, His expression, His compassion, heals you as you realize He was always there, His heart was breaking for you.
There are those lonely memories, when you felt utterly alone. Seeing Jesus there heals you when you understand you were never alone.
There are those shameful memories where you acted out of hurt. Seeing Jesus in those moments heals you when you realize He wasn’t ashamed of you, didn’t condemn you—but instead looked on you with compassion, knowing your heart, loving you through it.
And even in the good memories, seeing Jesus brings reassurance—sparks love, confidence, peace, and joy. When you see Him, you can observe His expression, you can hear the tone of His voice in that moment, and you can fully experience His character in a way you couldn’t otherwise.
For me, when I see Jesus, I feel the depth of His goodness, mercy, peace, and love more fully. I feel His joy, so much more radiant than I expected. I was raised in the Church, under religion’s weight and rules, and I still am surprised by Jesus’ joyful, relational nature. He is a person, an infinitely good, loving, joy‑filled, merciful Person who delights in you. His delight never ends. And you have the lavish gift of knowing Him personally. The veil is torn, take hold of it! Know Him fully.
Seeing Jesus also helps you know, deep within, that He is with you always. When you recall memories and see Him there, you gain true assurance that He walked each step with you—even when you didn’t sense it. Let this truth sink in. Let it give you confidence in His presence today and for every day ahead. Practice seeing Jesus in every part of your day. How different would your life be if you knew you were never alone, and could actually see that reality? This changes everything!
And just as this changes everything for you—it can transform everything for your children, too. As I look back on my memories and walk through them with Jesus, I realize that while circumstances may not have changed, my experience of them would have, if I had known how to see Jesus. Seeing Him would have softened every blow, elevated the joy in the good times, and given me heavenly perspective throughout. Imagine if your children could do this! To know and see Jesus in their lives from a young age. And here’s the best news: They can!
In fact, it may even be simpler for them than it is for you. I often do this exercise with my kids: We pick a moment from our day and ask to see Him. Then, around the table, we describe what we saw. It’s so fun. We love hearing each other’s descriptions. Each one is beautiful in its own way. When your children learn this, they carry the awareness of Jesus into every moment, especially when you’re not there. Just the knowledge that they are not alone can make all the difference. So don’t stop with yourself, teach your kids to see Jesus today. Their lives will never be the same!
So in closing: Now that you’ve begun to see Jesus and understand how it can change you, keep seeing Him! Look for Him in your everyday life, and include your children regularly. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into memories that need healing. Go there. Ask Jesus where He was. Prepare to be healed. Prepare to receive His perspective on your past, present, and future. And prepare to live every day in joy and peace, knowing He is with you.
