The Pursuit - 12 Weeks

ڕۆژی35 لە 84

After walking through John’s gospel—seeing Jesus crucified and risen—it’s fitting to end the week with Paul’s breathtaking description of who Jesus truly is. Colossians 1 is one of the richest passages in the New Testament, a hymn of praise that captures the full scope of Christ’s identity and work.

Paul begins by calling Jesus “the visible image of the invisible God.” That means if you’ve ever wondered what God is like, look at Jesus. His compassion for the hurting, His authority over nature, His willingness to forgive, His sacrifice on the cross—that is God on display. Jesus isn’t a mere reflection of God; He is God Himself, made visible.

Then Paul zooms out even more. Jesus is not just the Savior of individuals—He is the Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe. “Everything was created through Him and for Him.” That means the galaxies and the grains of sand, your DNA and the tallest mountain peaks—all exist by His power and for His glory. And not only did He create it, He also holds it all together.

Colossians 1 is the mountaintop view that helps us see the whole picture. The Jesus who died and rose is no ordinary man. He is the Lord of creation, the head of the church, the reconciler of sinners, the first to rise from the dead, and the One who will one day make all things new.

Reflection:

Which aspect of Colossians 1 challenges you most—His supremacy over all things, or His personal sacrifice for you?
