Spiritual DNA Test

Imagine for a moment that you could take a spiritual DNA test. What would the results reveal? Would it show that you are a beloved child of God, or would it expose a truth that you’ve been avoiding—that you are, in fact, a child of the devil? In 2 Corinthians 13:5, Paul challenges us to examine ourselves, to take this sort of spiritual paternity test, to double-check and see if Christ truly lives within us.

Before knowing Jesus, I really thought I knew Jesus. Pretty scary, right? There’s got to be nothing more troubling than genuinely believing you’re a Christian and not being a genuine Christian. Now, imagine standing before Jesus, confidently saying, “I went to youth group in Your name,” “I prayed in Your name,” or this one that’s pretty crazy, “I cast out demons in Your name,” only to hear Him reply, “I never knew you.”

The reality is, there are many who believe they are children of God, but in truth, they are not because Christ is absent from their lives. The Bible makes it clear: there are children of God, and there are children of the devil. So, how can you know where you stand?

Have you taken the time to test yourself, to see if you are truly in the faith? Is there evidence of Christ’s presence in your life, guiding your thoughts and actions? If you are a Christian, I hope that this paternity test helps you confirm your relationship to your creator and affirm your place as His child. If you aren’t a Christian, I hope that you can know my Father. I pray that you can flee the rough hands of an abusive father and run into the welcoming arms of the One who sacrificed everything to call you His own.

This week, I encourage you to step away from the noise and find a quiet place. Ask yourself, “Where do I see Christ’s presence in my life? Are there areas where the world’s influence overshadows God’s Word?” If you uncover areas where you are not living as a true child of God, don’t turn away. Bring them before God in prayer, asking for His forgiveness and the strength to change. Trust that His grace is not just a one-time gift but a daily renewal, leading you closer to Him each step of the way.

Let’s pray: Father, test my heart and tell me the truth. If I have lived in an illusion, bring me to real faith in Jesus. If I am your child, confirm it and renew me each day by your grace. Amen.
