DAY 2 — Simple Ideas Changing the World

Scripture:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”
Matthew 22:37–38

One of my favorite quotes is attributed to Albert Einstein: “Out of clutter, find simplicity.” I love this quote because we live in a world that has become so complex. But even in the midst of complexity, ironically, people are hungry for simplicity.

Simple ideas are changing the world. We are all familiar with the company Apple. They are pioneers in creating simple. Have you ever read the magazine Real Simple? It’s a popular interior design magazine—and the most successful magazine launch in decades.

Simple is in. Simple works.

If anyone knows simple, it’s Jesus. He stepped into a complicated religious scene. The religious leaders had developed a system with approximately 613 laws divided into two sections: “Do this” and “Don’t do this.” Jesus entered the scene with the ability to take the complex and make it simple.

The Pharisees gathered for a meeting to devise a debate strategy. They chose the smartest guy to take on Jesus, and he asked, “Out of all the commandments, which is the greatest?” Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Jesus took the complexity of the law and made it simple: “Love God with all your heart.”

“Complexity creates confusion. Simplicity creates clarity.”

The Ripple Effect

When a stone is dropped into still water, it creates a ripple that spreads far beyond the point of impact. What begins as a single moment quickly affects the surrounding surface, reaching outward in every direction. In the same way, our choices, relationships, and sources of wisdom have a ripple effect on our lives. The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20, HCSB
