REAP WHAT YOU SOW:

When I was seven years old, our parents purchased an old farm in Milan, Indiana with another couple. Every weekend our two families would head out to the country and do life together. I have many fond memories from this time in my childhood. The sixty-three acres of property provided ample room for all nine of us kids to roam and explore.

One year our parents planted a garden to help fill our bellies with good, wholesome food. We all had high hopes for enjoying the fresh vegetables from our little plot of land, but we quickly realized, tending a garden on weekends alone was insufficient time to cultivate the abundant harvest we envisioned.

The result?

We received a small return on our investment. The plants yielded very little produce, definitely not enough food to sustain two families.

Thankfully, our neighboring farmer friends were gracious enough to share their bountiful harvest with us.

As the saying goes, we reap what we sow—a statement that rings true for both gardens and spiritual growth. When we invest adequate time and effort into our personal spiritual growth, like a well-tended garden, we will yield a great return on our investment.

Bask in the Son’s light and goodness, fill your heart and mind with water through the Word, weed out worldly lies, and watch your relationship with God bloom and grow.

Remember, a fruitful relationship with God requires intentional time and effort. You will get out of it what you put into it. Sow on weekends only, and you will reap a weekend harvest. Sow all-week-long, and you will reap a bountiful harvest that will not only nourish your family, but it will nourish others as well.

REFLECTION:

Are you spending adequate time with God each day?

What practices or spiritual disciplines have you put into place to help you grow deeper in faith?

PRAYER:

Lord, help me spend adequate time growing deeper in my faith, so that out of the abundance of my heart, I’m able to help others grow too. Amen.

Faith That Grows in Every Season

Throughout our faith journey, we go through seasons of growth. Some growth is visible; it can be seen and felt. Other growth is hidden beneath the surface; it may not be as readily seen or felt, but it’s equally important. God ordains different seasons to build and strengthen our faith. He gives us plenty of experiences, opportunities, and grace; but whether we allow life’s ever-changing seasons to grow us is up to us. Develop steadfast faith that grows in every season.
