CONFIDENCE AMIDST THE STORMS OF LIFE

Truly, my soul finds rest in God.

Life often feels chaotic, filled with noise and distractions coming at us from every direction. In this turmoil, we may be tempted to seek security in people or things rather than in Jesus, who is called “our rock and our salvation.”

We face battles on two fronts: inner and outer. Inner battles manifest as grappling with doubt, struggling to keep our thoughts holy, or being weighed down by physical illness. Outer battles might involve conflicts with others, career pressures, or being attacked by dark spiritual forces.

Psalm 62:1 speaks of "rest" in God, a concept that can be translated as waiting, being silent or still, and quietly trusting in Him. Yet, waiting on God often feels unnatural. We tend to believe we must solve our own problems, take immediate action, or stay busy just to maintain a sense of control.

But true rest in God invites us to pause, seek Him, and anticipate His presence. When we do, He meets us and renews our faith. This faith equips us to face life’s storms with peace and confidence, grounded in His strength and love.

Ask Yourself

When was the last time I sat quietly, anticipating God’s presence? What keeps me from doing this, and how can I reduce the distractions that pull my attention away from Him?

Pause to Pray
Jesus, I come before You with the sole purpose of meeting with You. I quietly wait in Your presence, for my victory comes from You. I choose to quiet my thoughts and listen for Your still, small voice. In this moment, I turn my attention and affection toward You as I wait.

Take a Next Step
Level 1: Identify a space in your home or another quiet location that can serve as your prayer sanctuary.

Level 2: Intentionally schedule a brief time to be alone with God this week. Set aside 5 or 10 minutes to begin with.

The Psalms are the songs of ancient Israel, and they reflect the emotions, temptations, and struggles of everyday life. In the Psalms, we learn to set aside our shame, stand with confidence, move through uncertainty, and give God our praise.
