Faith Travels Through Generations

Focus

Gratitude: Think of someone who helped you grow in faith. Offer a prayer of thanks for their influence.

Listen

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:5 (CEB)

"I’m reminded of your authentic faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. I’m sure that this faith is also inside you."

Reflection:

Timothy’s faith was shaped not only by Paul, but by his mother and grandmother, too. Faith is most often passed from one life to another through relationships—not lectures. Parents, grandparents, and trusted adults help young people encounter God by living faith honestly and faithfully, in the everyday ups and downs of life. You may not feel like a spiritual expert, but your story matters. Young people watch how you pray, handle disappointment, and trust God. That’s where faith takes root.

Apply

What part of your own faith story might encourage a young person if you shared it? Ask God who he might want you to share it with today. Then, consider reaching out to someone who inspired you through their faith and thank them.

Respond

God, thank you for those who passed faith on to me. Help me to be faithful in sharing my story with others, so your love may continue to grow through every generation.

Faith Formation Framework Series 1: Faith Shared by Adults

Young people need adults who show up for them—not just at church events, but in everyday life. This first part of the Faith Formation Framework invites you to consider how your presence, your listening, and your own growing faith can become a gift to the next generation. We invite you to plan your work with young people in accordance with the safe environment policies of your local faith community. Other than that, you don’t need special credentials—just a willing heart.
