James: Principles in Practiceنموونە

Chapter 3
James continues the teaching that what we believe influences our actions; this principle is no different from the words we speak and the wisdom we share.
True Faith evidenced by words (1-12)
Mastery is something we all aim to achieve in our respective fields, but when it comes to mastering the tongue, it's a delicate line. Microphones are accessible, and platforms can be created, but God will hold us all accountable for the words we speak and the hearts they hurt when spoken unjustly. Horses are not controlled by their long backs or heels but by a bit placed in their mouths that can turn their entire body. Even ships, though some are massive, are controlled by a helm. The tongue is no different. Though small, it can cause significant damage to those who haven't learned to tame it.
Think of all the wars that have started with words, and all the families divided by gossip. Churches have split over the whispers of saints who should be there for worship and praise of God, but are instead lured in by the latest gossip. Our tongues can be a mess; therefore, we need the power of the Holy Ghost to prevent them from spewing curses at men but blessing to God. A fountain cannot produce both sweet and bitter water, nor should we.
True faith is demonstrated not only through our actions but also in how we speak, especially in knowing when it is wise to remain silent.
True and False Wisdom (13-18)
What do you search for when you listen intently to knowledge soaked in wisdom? James admonishes us that godly wisdom flows from meekness. There is a gentle spirit, even when correction is needed, that offers peace and the possibility of restoration. If someone claims to have knowledge about the holy but is divisive, bitter, and full of conflict, we are warned to reject this wisdom because it does not come from above. Instead, it is demonic, fleshly, and primarily worldly. God’s wisdom always gently guides us toward peace.
Meanwhile, false wisdom causes division and can destroy relationships and even undermine one’s faith. God is not the source of confusion. How did Jesus show wisdom on earth? He spoke truth with gentleness.
Encouragement.
If you have struggled with your words, and to be cleansed from your old nature and speech, there is grace for you. God can and will purify your heart and the language that flows from it. But you must pray in humility and ask for help. Maybe you need wisdom and clarity, but those whom you have sought it from have led to a more bitter position than before. I encourage you to reject that wisdom. God may call you to do hard things and make hard decisions, but it will always be clothed in love, gentleness, and peace.
I have summarized chapter 3. Now, I encourage you to read this chapter, take notes, pray, and ask the Lord to illuminate these verses in your heart.
Be Encouraged.
